At last, the submissions for ICPhS are in – phonetics departments worldwide are breathing a sigh of relief.
I nearly got there without resorting to coffee, but had to admit defeat this afternoon when the choice was between humiliatingly dozing off at my desk in front of a pile of first year assignments to mark (and my very studious colleagues), or reaching for the cafetiere.
Well, I say cafetiere – it’s actually one of those thermal insulated mugs which keep your beverage too hot, in fact, to drink, thus necessitating much messy transference of liquids between cups.
Anyway, having made it this far, I’m buying Einaudi’s new CD, Divenire, to celebrate. Funny how he keeps writing beautiful things at very opportune moments – Le Onde got me through a difficult patch a couple of years ago, so maybe Divenire will do the same for the next lap.
