Getting two glimpses of a place I’ve never been (wherever that is) and am never likely to be is plenty substantive. Thanks for these two windows on where you are!
Ah, Stornoway! Where A. W. Pink spent the last 12 years of his life (1940-1952) and where his widow Vera died (1962), and where they are both buried. Incidentally, she died exactly 10 years to the day of her husband’s funeral.
Yep that’s right! He was an Englishman though i think and he lived pretty much like a recluse, didn’t really participate in any of the available congregations (even tho their theology would have been extremely similar to his own!) His writings are extremely useful though, from what i’ve read.
Kenneth MacRae is also relatively well-known i think – minister of Stornoway Free Church round about the 1960s.
Alexander MacKenzie who explored Canada around the turn of the 19th century was also from Stornoway :) Alexander MacKenzie
